With its park-like grounds, stately Austin-stone buildings, and stained-glass windows portraying scenes from the life of Christ, the First United Methodist Church of Mercedes stands out as a beautiful house of worship. 

Worship begins Sunday mornings at 11:00; Sunday School at 10:00.   Wednesday night children and youth group activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude with snacks and freeplay in the courtyard.

• The Outreach and Nurture Committee works through school contacts here in Mercedes to provide shoes, school supplies and crisis support to local families in need.  Worship, fellowship, Bible and faith-building studies, missions, and outreach are all integral elements of life at FUMC.

• We have designed our education, kitchen and fellowship buildings to double as a staging area for medical and construction teams. 

• “The Team House” is an additional farmhouse about 3 miles further south, which serves as a staging area for teams (as well as a great place for Youth Lock-ins.)  

• Church volunteers greet and assist approximately 35 teams a year, providing translation and prep work as needed.  

• Several of our church members, as well as Winter Texans and other friends, work with the colonias and maintain a distribution center in Nuevo Progresso. 

• The distribution center is one of the ways we distribute beans and rice from our monthly Beans and Rice Offering as well as clothes from our Clothes Closet.
